INTERNET OF THINGS (I.o.Ts) HERE TO ENHANCE BEE MONITORING & FRUIT-FLY CONTROL – Dr. Mary Nsabagwa

Bees are very important to our Ecosystem; their Pollination rate is over 70% of the Vegetation & Crop Plantation hence contributing to majority of Food Production.

Due to Industrialization & increased Pesticide usage among other Human Activities, Bees have migrated to further places away from human environment in search for Natural Vegetation and therefore becoming an endangered species

However, Dr. Mary Nsabagwa, a Researcher & Computer Scientist at Makerere University believes the Advancement and Incorporation of ICTs & I.o.Ts in Agriculture has yielded more fruits in the recent past, therefore providing affordable technologies for Bee Management such as Smart Bee Monitors & E-Traps for Fruit Growers.

She says “The Smart Bee Monitor will keep track of all Bee Activities in & around the Hive, Check the Temperature, Measure Weight of the Hive, provide reliable Humidity detail to the farmer in order to provide conducive environment for Bees to stay.”

The E-Traps will control the usage of pesticide to preserve the fruits hence creating a cleaner Environment & preserve the Primary Pollinator – Bees, she added
